S is for School Holiday Ideas Jar (#AtoZChallenge)

My School Holiday Ideas Jar - 2015 Edition post continues to be one of the Most Popular posts on my blog, so it's only fitting that I share it today for #AtoZChallenge - Letter of the Day: S.

I first introduced the School Holiday Ideas Jar to my daughter last year, a few months after I had my second baby. I needed a way of keeping her occupied so that she wouldn't say "Mum, I'm Bored" (and that used to happen a lot). It was also a great for us to do something together while baby slept.

So one day, I sat down with Miss B and asked her what sort of activities she would like to do. I wrote each of them on a piece a paper, with a little picture (optional), folded it and put them in a jar. It then became our School Holiday Ideas Jar. You can read the full post here.

It was the BEST IDEA EVER because there was a range of activities that she could do independently, with me or a friend or together as a family. The activities are simple, affordable and fun...some examples are: Arts & Craft, Nature Scavenger Hunt, Manicure & Pedicure, Board games, Go to the beach, plus many more.

It has become a hit with our family & amongst our friends, I also know a few of my followers have created their own School Holiday Ideas Jar and thanked me for introducing the idea to their family. We look forward to the school holidays now and you can too.

School Holiday Ideas Jar - 2015 Edition

The School Holiday Ideas Jar was first introduced to Miss B when Master M was only a few months old. I needed to find a way of keeping Miss B occupied during the school holidays, otherwise we would both all go mad! So I came up with the School Holiday Ideas Jar - you can see my original post here for more details of what we did. Miss B loved it and quite a few of my followers were inspired and did the same with their children which was fantastic!

Now that 2015 is upon us and we have just over a month until the kids return to school, why not create a School Holiday Ideas Jar for YOUR family - filled with activities & ideas to keep the kids happy & entertained! They can do the activities by themselves, with a group of friends or as a family.
Below is a list of possible activities/ideas that you can do with your children (adapt it to suit your child's age). A lot of the activities mentioned use items found in or around your home, cost a little bit of money or are FREE (best things in life are free).

School Holiday Idea: Build a fort/hut

Day 2 - Build a fort/hut
Did you ever make huts or a fort when you were little? I remember my brothers always used to make forts/huts and they wouldn't let me play in theirs, so I made my own in my room. Looking back now I don't think Mum was too impressed with us using every single blanket and sheet in the house! (sorry Mum).

A perfect inside activity on a rainy day! Let the kids own the lounge or bedroom for a day - building a fort using couches, chairs, blankets or sheets. Maybe get them to draw up a plan of what they want their fort to look like before letting them go for it! Have fun with it - I'm sure the kids will
The girls were very excited about building a fort/hut...Miss B and Paige drew up their plan and got stuck in to renovating our lounge - using most of the furniture, luckily I kept a chair for myself to sit on while they played (note: they used the coffee table instead of the kitchen table).
THE PLAN

They used the couch covers to cover their fort/hut (which was actually perfect - as it saved me from having to re-fold all the sheets and blankets that they would have used). The girls put the couch cushions on the floor and put a blanket on top, they grabbed their pillows & blankets from their beds, the laptop & rainbow loom and they were sorted! Enjoying their fort/hut - they even had Master M in  there for a look around and play :) Our cat Smooch thought it was awesome too!

Have your kids made forts/huts in your house?
